The arrests were the result of intelligence-driven operations conducted by the Nigerian Army in collaboration with other security agencies. According to military authorities, the coordinated operation targeted individuals suspected of facilitating the movement of weapons and ammunition to armed groups responsible for violent activities in the region.
In a related operation, security operatives raided a residence in Enugu State, leading to the arrest of a suspected gun runner. During the search, troops recovered a significant cache of firearms, assorted ammunition, military uniforms and equipment, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, communication gadgets, and other items considered crucial to the ongoing investigation.
The Nigerian Army described the operation as a major success in its sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and disrupt the illegal flow of weapons fueling insecurity across the South-East. It noted that the intelligence-led operation underscores the growing synergy among security agencies in identifying and apprehending individuals allegedly involved in aiding criminal activities.
The latest arrests highlight the determination of security agencies to rid the nation of criminal elements and reinforce accountability within institutions entrusted with protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
