The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) has announced Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the official date for the Yoruba Youth Summit, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The summit, themed "Celebrating the Legacy of Late Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo, GCFR (1909–1987)," aims to promote the timeless values of visionary leadership, youth empowerment, unity, integrity, and good governance exemplified by the late nationalist and statesman.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the President of the Yoruba Youth Council, Mogaji Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, following the National Working Committee (NWC) monthly meeting of the Council held on July 5, 2026.
According to the statement, preparations for the summit are already at an advanced stage. The Council also disclosed that it has formally sought the approval of the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, led by the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, to host the landmark event.
The YYC stated that the summit will convene thousands of Yoruba youths, traditional rulers, government officials, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, captains of industry, and other key stakeholders from across the South-West and beyond to discuss critical issues affecting youth development and the future of the Yoruba nation.
The Council further noted that the gathering will inspire a new generation of responsible leaders by reflecting on the life, values, and outstanding contributions of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo to Nigeria's political, educational, and socio-economic development.
The Yoruba Youth Council therefore calls on Yoruba youths, corporate organizations, development partners, public institutions, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative and actively participate in making the summit a historic, impactful, and memorable event.
