Breaking: NUT Suspends Indefinite Strike in Oyo State, Schools Set to Reopen
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has officially suspended the indefinite strike action embarked upon by its members in Oyo State, signaling the end of a work stoppage that affected academic activities in public primary schools across the state.
In solidarity with their colleagues in Oyo State, NUT chapters across the country organized peaceful rallies on June 2, 2026, demanding the immediate rescue of the abducted victims and urging governments at all levels to prioritize the security of schools. The nationwide demonstrations underscored the union's insistence that teachers should not be expected to work in environments where their lives and those of their pupils are under constant threat.
The suspension of the strike is expected to bring relief to thousands of parents and guardians whose children have been out of school since the commencement of the industrial action. It also offers hope for the restoration of normal academic activities in public primary schools across Oyo State, with many stakeholders expressing optimism that lost learning time can now be recovered.
As teachers prepare to return to the classroom, attention will now shift to the implementation of measures aimed at safeguarding schools and ensuring that educators can discharge their responsibilities without fear or intimidation.
